Alumina-Lined Pneumatic Conveying Pipes: Define the Bore, Joints and Duty

A pneumatic conveying pipe specification should connect the powder-handling duty to the complete lined assembly. An alumina material description alone leaves questions about the usable bore, joints, attachment and connections unanswered. A useful Sanxin inquiry explains the operating problem and identifies the interfaces that a proposed ceramic lining must preserve.

Describe the powder and the operating modes

Record the handled material, available particle-size information, moisture condition and relevant process temperatures. Identify whether these details describe routine production, startup or an occasional upset. When several products share a line, keep their duty descriptions separate until the process owner decides which combinations need to be assessed.

Add a marked wear map and the maintenance history. Distinguish loss of material from plugging, joint leakage or movement of a previous liner. These observations do not automatically establish a cause, but they make the supplier discussion more specific. Ask what additional information is needed when the current evidence cannot separate competing explanations.

Specify the finished flow passage

A ceramic lining occupies space within its supporting pipe or shell. Define the required finished internal diameter and show how it connects to adjacent components. A nominal pipe designation does not by itself identify the usable lined passage. Review flange alignment, gasket arrangement and any restriction imposed by existing equipment.

Consider a hypothetical replacement spool that fits between two existing flanges but leaves an internal step at its inlet. The external fit does not resolve the flow-surface interface. The drawing review should show how the lining meets the adjacent bore and how exposed ceramic edges are addressed. Any proposed change to the conveying system requires the responsible engineer's assessment.

Review joints and retention as part of the lining

Ask whether the proposal uses individual tiles, shaped segments or another liner construction, and request a drawing of the resulting joints. The ceramic pieces need support and retention appropriate to the assembly. Inspectability matters: a construction should identify which features can be checked before delivery and which require inspection after installation.

Confirm the requirements of any adhesive, backing, seal or other intermediate material. The ceramic material's temperature capability does not establish the allowable temperature of those other elements. Similarly, a material-level chemical-resistance statement does not qualify the whole assembly for an unspecified powder or cleaning exposure. Tie the review to the proposed construction and the declared duty.

Keep pressure and wear protection responsibilities clear

A wear liner and a pressure-containing pipe perform different functions. The purchase scope should identify the supplied shell, connections and documentation, together with any separate engineering requirements. Do not assume that a lining quotation approves a pressure boundary or a change in the plant's conveying arrangement.

The handover record should identify the approved drawing, offered material, assembly configuration and inspection results. Where the scope contains an unresolved requirement, record who will resolve it before release. This allows the purchaser to compare equivalent deliverables and keeps assumptions about shell design or system compatibility out of an otherwise useful wear-protection proposal.

Agree on a measurable qualification record

Before an approved evaluation, record the installed condition and the inspection locations. Compare observations under documented material and operating conditions, using consistent measurement methods. Include the joints and attachment condition in the assessment. A short observation period can inform the next inspection decision; it does not establish an unrestricted service-life claim.

For a Sanxin technical inquiry, send the route or spool drawing, finished-bore requirement, connection details, material duty and current wear evidence. State the supplied-assembly boundary and the acceptance documents required. Identify any fixed constraints and questions still awaiting the equipment or process owner's decision.

Does a high-alumina lining also qualify the pipe for corrosion resistance?

Compatibility depends on the actual material exposure and the entire proposed construction. Review the ceramic, joints, attachment and supporting assembly against the declared duty. An alumina label cannot establish suitability for every corrosive powder, moisture condition or cleaning process.
