Bonded Ceramic Liners in Bins: Investigate Detachment Without Guessing the Cause

When a bonded ceramic liner detaches from a bin wall, the remaining surfaces can provide information that is lost during cleanup. Preserve that evidence before choosing a replacement. A Sanxin review should identify the separation location, operating conditions and installation history. An intact detached tile does not by itself establish an adhesive defect, just as a missing tile does not provide a measure of abrasion resistance.

Preserve the separation surfaces

Photograph the detached piece and the exposed substrate with location and orientation identified. Record where material remains on each surface and whether fracture, backing damage or corrosion is visible. Include neighboring tiles and the larger bin area so the observation has context. Follow the plant's appropriate handling and access procedures rather than disturbing uncertain loose areas for a photograph.

Do not clean all affected surfaces before the investigation plan is agreed. If cleanup is necessary, record the original condition first where practical. Keep recovered pieces identified with their locations. The useful question is what the available evidence can establish, not which party seems most likely responsible from one isolated image.

Retrieve the actual bonding procedure

Identify the attachment material and installation instructions used, if known. Record substrate preparation, environmental conditions, application sequence and curing information available to the plant. Separate documented deviations from missing records. Neither proves a cause automatically, but both help define the evidence needed for the next installation and any further technical investigation.

Compare the procedure with the actual substrate condition and geometry. Uneven support, contamination, damaged wall material or unreviewed repairs may raise different questions. The equipment owner must assess any structural damage. A ceramic lining should not conceal an unresolved wall problem or be counted as a structural repair merely because it covers the exposed area.

Consider a hypothetical thermal-exposure gap

Imagine a hypothetical bin whose liner inquiry specifies normal material temperature but omits a cleaning or shutdown exposure. After detachment, the plant adds that history to the interface review and checks the complete assembly's limits. It does not declare temperature the cause without further evidence. This is an investigation example, not a Sanxin failure case or a proven explanation.

Impact, vibration and material ingress may also need review according to the actual equipment. High hardness does not qualify concentrated impact, and ceramic heat resistance does not establish the limit of the bonding system. Ask the relevant technical parties which observations or evaluations can distinguish the plausible mechanisms before selecting a corrective change.

Prepare a repair inquiry with an evidence plan

Send Sanxin the separation photographs, bin drawing, operating history and available installation records. Identify the proposed repair extent, retained lining and substrate condition. Ask any replacement proposal to define support, attachment procedure and boundary details. Clarify what must be checked before the working face conceals the interface.

Record the repaired installation at agreed hold points and preserve its initial condition. At later inspections, revisit affected locations and distinguish face wear from retention changes. If the corrective work changes several factors, document them and limit claims about individual causes. A disciplined repair process can reduce uncertainty without converting a tentative diagnosis into an unsupported assertion about adhesive, ceramic grade or service life.

Does adhesive remaining on one surface prove the root cause of liner detachment?

The separation pattern is evidence to investigate, not a complete diagnosis. Review preparation, substrate, curing, support, loading and environment together. Preserve the surfaces and records so responsible technical parties can evaluate the actual failure path.
