Custom Ceramic CAD and Drawing Revisions: Identify the Controlling Geometry Before Quoting

A custom ceramic inquiry can include a model and a drawing that no longer describe the same revision. Both files may look credible while leaving the intended requirement uncertain. For a Sanxin request, identify the controlling geometry and resolve discrepancies through the responsible design process. A supplier should not have to choose silently between conflicting references, and a visually convenient model should not automatically override the accepted drawing.

Keep file identity and revision together

Record the part identifier and revision represented by each file. Preserve the relationship between the model, drawing and any relevant specification. A filename containing final does not establish agreement if another document refers to a different accepted issue. The technical package should make the applicable set clear before it supports a quotation. Keep the issue source available so later readers can distinguish the accepted package from an unofficial working copy.

Identify whether the model is a design reference, an inspection aid or another stated deliverable. Do not infer its authority from the fact that it opens successfully in software. Likewise, an older drawing remains historical evidence without necessarily defining the current requirement. The responsible issuer should confirm the accepted relationship.

Resolve conflicts at the specific feature

State the affected surface, dimension or interface when the files disagree. Preserve the discrepancy rather than average the two versions or select one because it appears more recent in a local download folder. A file timestamp and a controlled revision serve different purposes.

This article does not prescribe a universal hierarchy between models and drawings. The applicable project requirements and design authority determine that relationship. Where a model omits information supplied by the drawing, keep the complete package together instead of treating a plausible three-dimensional shape as the entire component definition.

Keep quotation assumptions visible while clarification is pending

If an early feasibility response uses one identified basis, preserve that condition. It is not an accepted commitment for an unresolved alternative geometry. Ask the supplier to identify the assumed file set and any relevant exclusions rather than let a price absorb the discrepancy without comment.

For a hypothetical example, a buyer sends a current-looking ceramic model with a drawing showing a different end feature. The buyer obtains the design clarification and issues the accepted set before closing the offer. This is inquiry coordination, not a Sanxin custom manufacturing case or proof that the requested shape can be supplied. Feasibility still needs an explicit response for the resolved item.

Carry the accepted set into receiving

For a Sanxin request, send the controlled part package, intended supplied state, material requirement and relevant duty. Identify the authority for resolving geometry questions. Ask for the actual offered version and deviations, including any special finishing or inspection need, rather than assume general ceramic supply includes every modelled feature.

At order closure, retain the accepted model-and-drawing relationship with the item identity. Receiving and later replacement inquiries should recover that set instead of relying on whichever file remains easiest to open. A clear geometry basis supports a practical custom-part discussion without inventing capability, silently approving a design change or declaring a delivered ceramic incorrect against a reference that never governed the order.

Which governs a custom ceramic part when the CAD model and drawing disagree?

Use the applicable project requirements and responsible design clarification to establish the controlling set. Identify the specific discrepancy and preserve any provisional quotation basis. Do not assume universal file priority or let the supplier silently select a geometry from conflicting references.
