An elbow that wears out before the adjacent straight pipe deserves a focused investigation. Replacing its steel shell with a thicker version may postpone another shutdown without addressing where particles strike the wall. For a Sanxin ceramic-liner inquiry, the most useful starting point is a marked drawing of the failed bend and a description of the material moving through it.

Record where the wall loss begins, where it is deepest and whether it continues beyond the outlet flange. A narrow track on the outer radius suggests a different loading pattern from widespread damage around the circumference. Photograph the component in its installed orientation, then mark the flow direction, upstream equipment and distance to the next fitting. These observations help distinguish the worn surface from the conditions that produced the wear.
Ask operators whether the line has experienced blockages, changing feed sizes or repeated starts with settled material. A bend handling dry powder cannot be assessed from the same operating description as one carrying a slurry. The inspection record should identify solids, moisture, process temperature and any recent change in operation. Do not infer service life from an undated photograph.
A ceramic liner occupies space inside the steel assembly. Confirm the required finished bore rather than assuming that the original nominal pipe size will remain the usable internal diameter. Check the flange faces, gasket arrangement and alignment with adjoining pipework. A liner that fits the elbow shell can still leave an undesirable step at the connection.
On the drawing, show the inlet transition, outer-radius wear zone and outlet transition separately. Review how ceramic segments or tiles meet in those areas, and whether exposed edges face the incoming material. The objective is a continuous, supported flow surface with joints that can be inspected. Liner thickness alone does not describe this arrangement.
Alumina ceramic can be considered where abrasion is the principal concern, but the complete assembly also contains a backing structure, joints and a retention system. Confirm how the proposed lining will be attached and how that attachment will accommodate the stated temperature and installation conditions. Where large pieces strike the bend, discuss impact separately from sliding abrasion rather than treating hardness as proof of impact resistance.
An adhesive-mounted lining requires a defined surface-preparation and curing procedure. A mechanically retained design requires its own drawing and installation checks. The offered construction should identify the applicable process and its inspection points. If the operating conditions fall outside the supporting evidence, qualify a representative assembly before making a fleet-wide replacement.
Choose a bend with accessible isolation points and a known operating history for the initial evaluation. Record its installed condition, finished bore and critical joint locations before startup. Establish an inspection interval with the plant team and use the same measurement positions on subsequent inspections. Where practical, compare accumulated throughput as well as calendar time.
The acceptance record should include lining continuity, attachment condition, flange alignment and any observed cracking or edge damage. A successful inspection means the assembly meets those recorded checks at that time; it does not establish a universal lifetime multiplier. Use the observations to adjust the next maintenance decision and to identify any unresolved operating problem.
Send Sanxin the elbow drawing, installation photographs, a marked wear map and the operating description. Include the required finished bore, connection details, available replacement window and inspection access. State which dimensions are fixed and which can be reviewed. This allows the discussion to address an installable ceramic-lined elbow rather than a material label in isolation.
No single lining choice resolves every failure mechanism. A ceramic option should be evaluated against the wear pattern, impact loading, flow transitions, attachment method and operating conditions. Investigate plugging, misalignment or abnormal process changes alongside the liner specification.
