Investigate Unusual Contact Marks at Ceramic Mill-Liner Boundaries

A new mark near a ceramic mill-liner boundary can raise a different question from gradual wear across the face. Its position may relate to a joint, profile change or nearby component. Preserve the location and compare it with the approved mill drawing before assigning a cause. The equipment owner should assess any concern about unintended machine contact; a material selection discussion cannot determine that from an isolated photograph.

Locate the mark in the accepted geometry

Identify the component, drawing revision and orientation of the observed boundary. Show neighboring pieces and any relevant moving or functional features. Compare with the installed baseline where available. A bright or polished region can be an observation without proving which material produced it or whether it represents a newly unacceptable condition.

For a hypothetical relined mill region, the mark may occur where a replacement piece meets retained protection. Record the repair boundary and actual finished level. A photograph of the ceramic alone could omit that change. Preserve the assembly context so the reviewer can distinguish expected process contact from a fit or alignment question.

Keep different damage signs separate

Record surface loss, edge chips, cracks, joint opening and attachment movement independently. Include the sampling or examination method, with coverage and any relevant visibility limitations stated. Do not treat a narrow contact mark as the same evidence as a broken piece. Each finding may direct a different next inspection, and the equipment's action criteria should determine the relevant response.

Check the accessible support and retention details under the accepted procedure. High ceramic hardness does not establish tolerance to a concentrated load or an unsupported edge. A sound broad face also cannot prove every concealed attachment remains acceptable. State examination limits rather than assuming the most visible region represents the whole lining.

Review changes in installation and operation

Compare the actual lining profile with the controlled drawing. Identify accepted deviations, local repairs and any change in adjacent components. The mill owner must review geometry or clearance changes that affect machine function. Do not resolve an unexpected contact concern by informal grinding or operating adjustments based on a general ceramic article.

Retain the charge, feed and operating history relevant to the observation. A changed media arrangement or process condition can alter contact, but it should not be assigned as the cause without evidence. Keep material identification and construction records available so a later examination can be linked to the actual installed item.

Make the next observation answer a specific question

State which explanation is being assessed and what evidence would distinguish it from alternatives. This may require a dimensional check, examination during planned access or another owner-approved assessment. A more detailed hardness report does not resolve an unknown clearance. Keep machine release separate from any longer-term wear comparison.

Provide Sanxin with the oriented boundary photographs, approved geometry, repair history and operating description. Ask which material or construction information is relevant to the specific review. If a revised detail is accepted, document its starting condition and follow it at repeatable positions. The useful result is a clearer understanding of that boundary, without a universal claim about mill-liner performance.

Does a new polished mark prove that a ceramic mill liner is wearing normally?

Not by itself. Locate the mark, compare geometry and context, and review accompanying damage or movement. Use the equipment owner's inspection and action criteria, especially where unintended machine contact or a clearance change is possible.
