Preserve Both Sides of a Detached Ceramic Tile for the Failure Review

A detached tile can carry useful evidence on its working face and its support side. The corresponding substrate may add another part of the record. Preserve their relationship before cleaning or disposal removes context. A Sanxin inquiry should distinguish what the ceramic experienced from what happened at its attachment. An intact detached piece does not by itself prove a material defect, and a worn face does not establish why it came away.

Locate the piece before comparing surfaces

Record equipment identity, installed orientation and the tile's original position where known. Mark adjacent joints, support features and the material path. If several pieces are recovered loose, keep uncertain locations explicit rather than allocate them to a convenient part of the drawing. In a hypothetical chute inspection, one retained tile and an apparently similar detached piece may have different local loading. Their comparison needs that context. A photograph of the loose piece alone cannot show whether it came from the main wear track, a repaired corner or an edge near an access opening.

Record the working face as one observation

Describe face loss, chips, cracks and other visible condition with the accepted examination method. Preserve deposits or surface features relevant to the review before any approved cleaning. High hardness does not establish impact tolerance, and a fracture cannot be assigned to one operating event from appearance alone. Keep prior baseline and campaign history where available. The face can inform abrasion and contact questions while leaving retention unresolved. Do not treat apparently limited face wear as proof that every other assembly material remained suitable or that the installation required no further assessment.

Keep the support side and matching substrate identifiable

Photograph accessible conditions and relate the piece to the surface it left. Record visible residual material or irregularity without identifying its composition or cause by assumption. The examiner may need installation records, material identity or another assessment to interpret it. An observed distribution is not automatically proof of inadequate preparation, excessive loading or an unsuitable joining product. Preserve removed and retained comparison regions where appropriate under the site's procedure. A final repair photograph cannot recreate this pre-repair evidence once the substrate has been cleaned, adjusted or covered by another tile.

Recover the attachment and operating history

Identify the accepted construction, preparation requirements, joining or mechanical retention and any site substitutions. Include temperature, chemistry, cleaning and relevant exceptional contact. Ceramic limits cannot rate another assembly material. Structural concerns in the supporting equipment remain with the owner and should not be hidden by replacement. If installation evidence is missing, keep that gap open rather than declare historical steps verified from current appearance. The review should distinguish observations, plausible explanations and confirmed findings, with the next evidence chosen to resolve the actual question instead of simply requesting a harder grade.

Define the correction and preserve its new baseline

Send Sanxin the position map, both-side photographs, support observations and actual duty. Ask which material or construction information can help. The responsible equipment process should accept the repair scope and release requirements. If a revised attachment or boundary is proposed, record its rationale and relevant qualification. Preserve preparation and completion checks before concealment, then revisit named locations during service. A useful detachment investigation can improve the next decision without claiming that one tile proves a universal ceramic defect or that an unverified material substitution alone resolves the interface.

Does an intact detached tile prove that the ceramic material was satisfactory and only the adhesive failed?

No. It directs attention to the complete attachment and loading, but cause still needs evidence. Preserve both surfaces, substrate, identity and history. Review material, support and operating questions without assigning a confirmed failure mechanism from one loose piece.
