Transfer Ceramic Liner Experience Between Industries With a Duty Comparison Sheet

Experience from another industry can raise a useful ceramic-lining question, but the industry name is a weak basis for transferring a construction. Two components may share abrasion while differing in impact, chemistry, support or maintenance access. A duty comparison sheet makes those similarities and differences explicit. It helps the buyer use relevant experience without importing an unrelated service-life claim into a new application.

Describe the reference as a component and a duty

Record the protected component, material movement, operating environment and inspection basis of the available experience. Separate what is documented from what is inferred. A photograph may show layout but not throughput, temperature or attachment condition. If the reference lacks these details, use it to guide questions rather than describing it as a demonstrated result for the new process.

For a hypothetical comparison, a powder bend in one industry and a slurry bend in another may have similar outlines. Their contacting media and operating behavior are still different. List the particle motion, moisture, chemical exposure and startup conditions for each. The shape alone does not establish that the same ceramic joints or retention arrangement can be transferred.

Identify the variables that decide relevance

Compare the wear mechanism first. A favorable sliding-abrasion observation does not qualify direct lump impact. Then compare finished geometry, support and attachment, including exposed edges and terminations. These assembly details can matter even when the ceramic designation matches. Keep unknowns visible because missing evidence is not confirmation that the duties are equivalent.

Review temperature and chemical limits across every material in the proposed assembly. Product-quality constraints may also differ between processes. A bulk transfer result cannot establish purity or compatibility for a sensitive powder. Where the new application has a stricter requirement, identify the additional evidence or testing needed rather than assuming that success under a less demanding criterion is sufficient.

Compare the definition of an acceptable result

Ask what triggered replacement or acceptance in the reference installation. A component removed during convenient maintenance may not have reached its wear limit, while one inspected only after failure may lack a useful progression record. Compare those endpoints with the new equipment's consequence of damage. Different maintenance rules can make two reported operating intervals unsuitable for direct comparison.

Record inspection coverage and its limits. An intact exterior does not prove the condition of concealed ceramic or backing. If the reference reports only accessible surfaces, retain that boundary. A useful comparison can still emerge, but it should explain what was actually examined rather than turning incomplete inspection into a broad statement about the whole lining.

Use the comparison to design a local evaluation

List the aspects supported by relevant experience and the differences that need qualification. Choose a trial location and inspection plan that address those differences. Preserve a local baseline and operating record. The first objective is to establish suitability of the accepted construction in the new duty, not to reproduce a favorable numerical result from another process.

Provide Sanxin with the new application sheet and the questions raised by the reference. Ask for a proposed construction and evidence appropriate to the actual equipment. Review any geometry, pressure or support changes with the equipment owner. A disciplined transfer of experience carries forward useful observations and methods while leaving unsupported performance claims behind.

Does use in a more severe-looking industry qualify a lining for a new process?

No. Severity must be described through actual mechanisms, environment and acceptance requirements. Compare the component duties and identify unknowns. A visually dramatic reference may still provide little evidence for a different chemical exposure, product-quality limit or attachment arrangement.
