Wear Ceramic Tiles: Verify Equipment Availability with a Repair Record

A wear tile proposal often begins with a promise of fewer shutdowns. The buyer needs a more concrete question: which maintenance task would change, and what evidence would show that the change helped? For a Sanxin technical discussion, connect ceramic selection to the equipment repair record before estimating any availability benefit.

Describe the interruption that matters

Separate planned inspections from unplanned failures. Record what stopped the equipment, which component required replacement and whether the outage included other maintenance. A lining repair that occurred during a larger scheduled shutdown should not automatically be counted as downtime caused by the old liner. That distinction helps identify the actual operational problem.

Include the time needed for isolation, cooling, cleaning, access and reinstatement. These tasks may dominate an outage even when the physical replacement is quick. If access is the constraint, a different tile material alone may not produce the expected improvement. Ask the maintenance team which step they would like the new design to simplify.

Identify the part of the failure that tiles address

Review failed surfaces for gradual abrasion, cracking, debonding and support damage. Ceramic hardness is relevant to abrasive contact, but it does not explain every failure. A detached intact tile points toward a different investigation from a tile that has worn thin while remaining supported. Keep those observations distinct in the maintenance log.

Inspect neighboring components as well. Material can strike an unprotected edge or find a gap between panels. A proposal should identify the protected area and its limits. Avoid assigning the old assembly's entire repair burden to the worn face when fasteners, backing steel or alignment also contributed.

Compare maintainable constructions

Request a drawing showing tile layout, retention, joints and the replacement boundary. Ask whether a damaged area can be repaired locally and how the sound surrounding lining would be protected during that work. The answer should describe a practicable maintenance procedure rather than simply calling the arrangement modular.

Review the conditions needed for installation. An adhesive cure may impose access or environmental requirements; a mechanically retained panel may need lifting space and fastener clearance. Confirm that the proposed procedure fits the plant's available shutdown conditions. Material properties and maintainability are connected but separate purchasing criteria.

Establish a fair hypothetical comparison

Imagine a hypothetical abrasive transfer where the current metal liner is routinely replaced during an annual equipment overhaul. A ceramic trial remains intact at the next overhaul, but another component still determines the outage duration. The observation supports a lining-condition comparison; it does not establish that the plant gained an equivalent amount of production time.

For a more useful evaluation, record the tasks actually avoided, added or shortened. Include any extra inspection, cleaning and handling work associated with the trial. Keep production changes, feed changes and unrelated repairs visible. A benefit statement becomes credible when it can be traced to the specific maintenance activity that changed.

Define the evidence needed before expansion

Agree the inspection locations, photographs and replacement criteria before startup. Track the condition of attachment points and neighboring surfaces alongside wear of the tile face. Review results with operations and maintenance together, since a lining that looks sound may still complicate cleaning or restrict access.

Send Sanxin the repair history, component drawing, access photographs and operating description. Ask which parts of the proposed arrangement can be specified and inspected before installation. Expand a successful trial only after the team understands why it performed acceptably and whether the next equipment location presents comparable conditions.

Is a longer lasting tile enough to demonstrate better equipment availability?

No. Availability depends on the interruptions and maintenance tasks that actually change. Record the cause and duration of relevant work, separate unrelated outages, and compare the complete repair arrangement under documented operating conditions.
